Membership is open to faculty, staff, and alumni at Rutgers and the New Brunswick Theological Seminary.
The University pool was started in the winter of 1960 by a group of Rutgers University faculty and senior level administrators. After looking at vacant campus land, they chose the present site because it was quiet and surrounded by trees. The University Swimming Association, Inc. (USAI) leased the land from the University and built the pool with money raised by selling bonds to members. This practice continues today as a way to maintain the security fund.
